Born in Hartford, Connecticut, LaToya went to school in Tolland before moving to Maryland with her mother in 1995, her obituary says.
She later graduated from Wilde Lake High School in 2002 and had spent time studying business administration at Morgan State University, Howard Community College and the University of Phoenix.
LaToya worked at Sears as a Sales Associate and later at Hecht’s. She also interned at Sojourner Douglas College, eventually landing a position with Telligen, where she worked as a Contract Reviewer to support large Medicaid contracts.
LaToya loved the arts, particularly dance and piano. She also loved hiking, biking, and playing soccer.
Above all, LaToya is remembered as a cherished and compassionate sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend.
“She was a special light, a ray of sunshine, a voice of encouragement, a needed smile, a trusted ear, a playful sprit, a kid at heart, life of the party, joyrider, all-around good person that came with no judgement, all about living life to the fullest,” reads her obituary.
LaToya is predeceased by her parents, Clifford Lee Chalk and Rebecca (Davis) Chalk. She is survived by her loving sister, Teshia R. (Terrell) Davis; a nephew, Taison Nasir Davis; Godmother and Aunt, Linda “Yvonne” Chalk-Watts; Aunts, Janese (Warren) Bolden, Bernice (John) Lucas, Rosalie Thorpe, Catherine (Leroy) Williams; Uncles, Edmund (Linda) Chalk, Harmon (Hazel) Davis, Ulysses “Mickey” (Gayle) Davis, and many more.
LaToya’s memorial is scheduled for Saturday, April 13 at Witzke Funeral Homes in Columbia.
